Carrie Underwood Debuts at Number One on Billboard's Top Country Albums Chart
(Source: Yahoo News)

Carrie Underwood Highest Selling Debut Country Artist in the SoundScan Era NEW YORK, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Idol winner Carrie Underwood made history today when her debut 19 Recordings/Arista Records album, Some Hearts, moved more than 314,000 units in its first week of release, making her the highest debuting new artist in the country genre since SoundScan began. Carrie also earned the distinction of selling more units than any other debut female American Idol star to date. In addition, Carrie's album is the highest charting album for a debut artist in 2005.

The sales numbers easily put Some Hearts at the top of Billboard's Top Country Albums Chart, with an overall ranking of Number 2 on the Billboard 200 which ranks albums of all genres.

Carrie Underwood's impressive sales numbers were propelled by two hit singles at separate radio formats. "Jesus, Take The Wheel" is currently sitting at 14 Bullet on the Billboard Monitor Country chart and is gaining momentum more quickly than any other record at the format. In fact, the track made chart history earlier this fall by becoming the first single by a new artist to debut inside the Top 40 on the country charts since BDS monitoring started in 1990. On the pop side, the title track "Some Hearts," which was shipped to radio only weeks ago, is quickly climbing the Billboard Monitor Pop charts, giving the vocalist exposure on country and pop radio formats out of the box, a rarity in today's music business and virtually unheard of for a new artist.

In addition to the remarkable radio airplay, Carrie has only just begun a slate of television performances which will remind fans of the spectacular voice and charismatic stage presence that earned her the top spot at this year's American Idol competition. Ms. Underwood's performance at the recent CMA Awards made show history when she became the first artist with only one single to secure a coveted performance and presenter slot on the biggest Country Music primetime television show of the year. Carrie also recently performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and on the Today Show and will perform on The View today. She is scheduled to make appearances on Ellen and the Billboard Awards. In addition, Carrie will bring some holiday cheer to television audiences by singing Christmas songs on shows like Dr. Phil, TNT's upcoming "Christmas in Washington" special and on the annual Christmas at Rockefeller Center. Carrie will be the subject of a profile on NBC's Dateline in early December as well as a profile on CMT's "In The Moment" on December 16th.

Thanksgiving is a particularly exciting day for Carrie -- the music video for "Jesus, Take The Wheel" is set to debut on CMT on Thanksgiving Day as a "Hot Shot" and she will perform "Some Hearts" on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

With such a strong promotional schedule, radio airplay continuing on the upswing, and a slew of magazine features still to come, Carrie Underwood will undoubtedly become very familiar with the top of the charts for the remainder of 2005 and beyond.

Now, the "American Idol" winner is paving her own way to stand in the country music spotlight, and CMT captures it all for the one-hour episode of CMT IN THE MOMENT: CARRIE UNDERWOOD, premiering Friday, December 16 at 10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT.

CMT IN THE MOMENT brings viewers unprecedented, uncensored access to country music's newest rising star, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the road Underwood travels to pursue her musical dreams. Her performance at the 2005 CMA Awards rounds out the show.

Underwood, the newly crowned "American Idol," started singing in public when she was a small child and made her first studio recordings at age 13. Hailing from Checotah, Oklahoma, the 22-year-old began her career singing in festivals throughout the South and Midwest. On "American Idol," Underwood regularly sang songs by country superstars Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts and the Dixie Chicks. Underwood, who is now signed with 19 Recordings/Arista, released her debut album, Some Hearts, on November 15, 2005.

IN THE MOMENT was created and is executive produced by George Moll of County Line Productions. Moll created and produced the hit VH1 eries "Behind the Music" and has also developed and produced original programming for CMT, TV Land and BBC. Lewis Bogach is executive producer for CMT. Country's Making a Comeback (Source: University Wire; 11/18/2005; Jennifer Lane- excert taken)
University Wire

11-18-2005

(Massachusetts Daily Collegian) (U-WIRE) AMHERST, Mass. -- Who can get away with wearing jeans and stiletto high heels to an awards show? Gretchen Wilson, of course. She's probably the only woman who can go to an awards show and get away with anything she wants (aside from Susan Sarandon). And who is Gretchen Wilson, you ask? She's not an underground artist, or another winner of American Idol; she's a country star. She's such a huge country star, in fact, that she won Female Vocalist of the Year on the Country Music Awards show on Tuesday evening.

This column is going to be a lesson in country music. It is my knowledge that many people think if you play country music backwards, you get your dog back and your wife will rip up the divorce papers. This is somewhat true in older country music songs, but there is a new generation of country that has been sweeping the nation. ..........

Another person who has helped country music immensely is Carrie Underwood. The adorable blonde, who won American Idol, is a country star and has a voice like an angel. Carrie Underwood already has a new single out called "Jesus, Take the Wheel." The song is a great new country song about a woman who wants to give up and let Jesus help her. In an interview the other day Carrie said she was "excited that people are getting into country music." Someone told her they bought a Martina McBride CD because they knew Martina originally sung "Independence Day," one of the songs that won Carrie the title of American Idol. This makes me and probably a few others laugh because Martina McBride won Female Country Vocalist of the Year four years in a row. She's a legend in country music and a young, new blonde is introducing a new audience to Martina and the rest of the country music industry.

I'm glad Carrie Underwood is helping people see that country music isn't only about losing your dog and wife, it's about love and living life. So why not "Live like you were dying" and take a risk. Life is all about "Making memories of us" and having a great time getting "All jacked up." So go out and buy a Keith Urban CD, if not for any reason other than he's really hot.

Music Row Welcomes Carrie with Open Arms (Source: http://www.tennessean.com/)
'
American Idol' winner finds warm reception where other 'outsiders' have failed

By BRAD SCHMITT
Staff Writer

Music Row tends to withhold Southern hospitality for Hollywood types who come here to scratch a country music itch.

After all, Nashville is where football great Terry Bradshaw, rocker Bret Michaels of Poison and actors Billy Bob Thornton, Maureen McCormick (Marcia on The Brady Bunch ) and Crystal Bernard (from TV's Wings ) have come to make country albums — all with little success.

So it's little surprise that when Capitol Nashville chief Mike Dungan hears an actor or a rocker is coming here to make country music, he has a less-than-enthusiastic reaction.

"I'm usually rolling my eyes," Dungan said. "The automatic thing to think is it's not going to (sell)."

Against that backdrop, an exception has exploded onto the scene. Nashville has enthusiastically embraced Carrie Underwood, who in May became the latest to win Fox's incredibly successful singing talent contest American Idol.

Within a month of being named the "American Idol" in front of 6,000 people at Universal Studios in Hollywood (and 33 million TV viewers worldwide), Underwood was in Nashville performing at the Gaylord Entertainment Center for a CMT greatest duets show. Within days of that, Underwood was at the CMA Music Festival on the big stage at the Coliseum......click here to read more of this article

Carrie Underwood to perform at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards (source: fmbq.com)
Kanye West will receive the Artist Achievement Award at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards , which will be held on December 6 in Las Vegas and broadcast live on Fox . Billboard says that West is being recognized for both his artistic excellence as well as his chart accomplishments.

In addition, American Idol  winner Carrie Underwood has joined the performance lineup for the ceremony, which will also feature Green Day and R. Kelly . Among the artists newly confirmed to make appearances at the event are 50 Cent , Lil Jon , Linkin Park and Chris Brown .

Carrie's Big Day (Source: Lexington Herald)
Carrie Underwood walked down the red carpet at Tuesday's Country Music Awards trying to get her mom to stop stepping on her gown. The reigning American Idol attended her first CMAs with her mother Carol just behind the train of her sleek red dress. It was a big day for Underwood, whose debut album, Some Hearts, was released Tuesday. "Instead of going through it all twice, this mashed everything together," she said. "I went to a record store this morning and bought my album. ... It's been surreal."

American Idol winner readies for first country release (Source: www.thevictoriaadvocate.com)
(SH) - "I believe that country music is the best kind of music out there and, if I helped one more person see that, then my job has been done," says Carrie Underwood, reigning "American Idol."

While the serialized TV talent competition has until now produced only potential pop stars, Underwood has stayed true to her Oklahoma roots and made a country album on the RCA Nashville label. She'll share her new music with fans on GAC's "Grand Ole Opry Live!" Nov. 19.

"I always made it well-known that country music was where I wanted to be, so I don't know why anyone would be surprised (by her country debut)," she says. "Fortunately, I never had to try to be anyone else because the people around me who helped me make my album knew that's who I was."

The making of that just-released new album, "Some Hearts," found Underwood at a writers' retreat, surrounded by some of the best songwriters in Nashville. "I got the chance to meet with and, in some cases, help out the writers who would be working on my album. Writing songs is always something that I have been interested in, but I really didn't feel like my writing chops were good enough yet to write songs for my first album," she adds. Writers who did make the debut release include uber hit songwriter Diane Warren (with three cuts) as well as Nashville notables Hillary Lindsey, Rivers Rutherford and Kelley Lovelace.

Her song selection process while making the album varied greatly from the process she used during the "Idol" competition. "I just wanted to sing songs that I really enjoyed singing, so I didn't put too much pressure on myself to come up with songs," the 22-year-old says.

The Checotah, Okla., woman initially was pursuing a journalism degree at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla., and had more practical plans for her entry into the real world. "I've never considered myself to be a dreamer, so my practical side always told me that I should not try so much to be a singer and focus my energy into graduating college and finding a career."

"I never thought that any of this would actually happen to me," she said. "These kinds of things only happen to imaginary characters on television or in the movies ... not real people."

So does she think that her introduction to the world via a hit TV show gives her a leg up on the country artist newcomer competition? "I do think I have a little more pressure on me because of winning 'American Idol,' but then again, I am starting way ahead of most new artists." Her current single and video, "Jesus Take the Wheel," continues to climb the charts on radio and on GAC's "Top 20 Countdown."

In addition to her "American Idol" title, Underwood earned the Teen Choice Award for Choice Reality Star - Female.

Seeking Carrie Over Appeal (Source: NY Post)
November 13, 2005 -- Carrie Underwood is about to go from "Idol" to idolized.

The winner of "American Idol" season four, with her all-American looks and Midwestern charm, saw her debut album soar to No. 1 on Amazon.com's country album sales rankings on Friday while her single, "Jesus, Take the Wheel," ranked No. 8 on iTunes' pop chart.

The Amazon ranking, which translated into a No. 6 ranking on the site's overall album sales chart, was based on pre-orders.

The album, "Some Hearts," will be released on Nov. 15.

According to Nielsen SoundScan...

Underwood aims for crossover success
By Deborah Evans Price NASHVILLE (Billboard) - Unlike the winners before her, current "American Idol" champ Carrie Underwood is gunning for success in not only the pop format, but the country arena too. Thus, Arista Nashville, a division of RCA Label Group, is partnering with 19 Recordings and J Records in New York to promote Underwood's November 15 debut, "Some Hearts." Underwood already has scored with "Inside Your Heaven," this year's best-selling retail single.

The song -- which has sold 434,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan -- topped the Billboard Hot 100 in July because of its strong sales. Now she will try to earn fans on country radio. "It's a dual approach," says RCA Label Group chairman Joe Galante, who says his Nashville office will handle country radio promotion for Underwood's single "Jesus, Take the Wheel," as well as other marketing and promotion efforts in the country community.

The J Records staff is handling the album's title track for top 40 and adult contemporary radio as well as taking the record to retail. "It's a split effort between the two of us," Galante says. Underwood is depending on both labels to shepherd her efforts. "They know what they're doing," she says. "I'm a country singer, but because of my exposure on 'American Idol,' I might tend to cross over naturally." In recording the album, the Checotah, Okla., native, who is buying a home in Nashville, says it was important to "keep things as country as possible."

"Everybody seems to have their arms wide open to me, so that's been great," says Underwood, who admits her first Nashville experience was not so positive. At 15, she was turned down by labels on Music Row. read more..................

Mens Fitness - Carrie Underwood (Source: Mens Fitness)
Sorry I'm late posting this guys! But here's the interview:

Mens Fitness: The American Idol title is nice and all, but you've also been named "World's Sexiest Vegetarian." How's it feel to beat other meat-eschewing babes like Reese Witherspoon and Avril Lavigne?

Carrie Underwood: Very nice. I didn't realize how many people actually are vegetarians, especially in the public eye, so I was really impressed that I actually won it among all of the good-looking females.

MF: We're still scratching our heads over what exactly your hit single, "Inside Your Heaven," means.

CU: It means I want to be a part of you; I want to know what you're feeling.

MF: So what kind of guy gets inside your heaven?

CU: If a guy thinks he's God's gift to women, I make sure and let him know that he's not. I'm not mean, but if I'm put in a situation where a guy is cocky, that's not gonna work. The kinds of guys that make the best boyfriends are the ones that are kinda right in front of your face the whole time.

MF: You're kind of known to be the innocent girl-next-door. Have you done anything completely out of character?

CU: Not really. I usually play it pretty safe. There's lotsa stuff I regret doing, but nothing that would shock the world. I was a typical college girl; I may have partied a tiny bit. Not much. Maybe twice a year. [ Laughs ]

MF: Your album drops this month. Can we expect any out-of-left-field duets, like Tim McGraw did with Nelly?

CU: I'd like to surprise people and someday do one song-not a whole album-with some rock hottie. Maybe Bo [Bice, this season's Idol runner-up]. He's got the whole southern-rock thing going.

MF: What's your advice for picking the perfect karaoke song?

CU Don't do anything serious, because karaoke is not meant to be serious. Get up and have fun and do something everyone can sing along with. Or something silly. I'd like to hear a guy sing "I Will Survive."

It's not known why two versions of the video was shot, it may be for two different networks such as one for VH1, one for CMT..etc.etc... but that's just an idea in my head lol... don't know that anything is true but the fact that two videos were shot.

Country Music Expects "Some Hearts" to have Big Numbers (excert taken- boston.com)
NASHVILLE -- Country music sales are off 10 percent from last year.

But with releases by Kenny Chesney and Big & Rich still to come, and the Country Music Association's annual awards show this month, no one is panicking.

Last year, Music Row executives were encouraged by Wilson and Big & Rich, because they signaled that the industry was producing a new crop of superstars. Wilson sold 4 million copies and Big & Rich 2 million.

This year's breakout has been the Atlanta trio Sugarland, which sold 1 million units. Many expect similar results from ''American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's upcoming album.

Underwood's record comes out Nov. 15, the same day as the Country Music Association awards show. The show, which will be broadcast live on CBS (Ch. 4), always provides a boost in sales.

Even with a generous sales bump, though, it will be tough to match last year. Besides being soft in major releases, 2005 also saw hurricanes demolish parts of the Gulf Coast -- a prime market for country music -- and drive up gasoline prices.

Carrie to be in Macy's Thanksgiving Parade (Source: PR Newswire)
This is old news, most all of you know this by now but: Accompanying the loveable Doughboy down Broadway will be Carrie Underwood who will be serving up a song from her soon to be released debut album. I'm posting this because I found out today that Oklahoma will celebrate their Centennial in 2007.. so Oklahoma will have a float in the parade. :) The float will be called "Oklahoma Rising". here's the excert:

" 100 years young, the great state of Oklahoma arrives on Broadway on the brand new Oklahoma Rising float. Celebrating the state's upcoming Centennial in 2007, the float features unique Oklahoma culture and achievements. Featuring a rocket ship in celebration of that state's eight astronauts, an oil well, and an authentic covered wagon, the float represents Oklahoma's past, present and future. Pulled by Oklahoma Clydesdales, the float will also feature recognizable American Indian tribal symbols. Tony winner and star of NBC's The West Wing, Kristin Chenoweth will be on board performing Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic tune "Oklahoma." Other famous Oklahomans including sports legends Barry Switzer, Shannon Miller, Johnny Bench and Bobby Mercer; opera Singer Leona Mitchell; composer Jimmy Webb; and Choctaw Indian Gena Howard will all be on board for the trip down Broadway. "

The parade will air live on NBC 9am - Noon on November 24th, 2005
